FFF national items:

Charter clubs from now thru June 30th offer new members a chance to join for only $10 dollars. Once a club gets a total of 12 or 15 members they can get a rod from FFF national for club use.

NEC (North East Council) of FFF would like each club to have a rep to attend NEC council meetings. Next meeting is May 17th in Rhode Island. We need a volunteer's). Frank McLanis expressed interest as has John Brincka. Others interested should let Jake know.

Upstate Fly Fishers May 7th General Meeting Minutes:

 

1)Opened meeting, asked for fishing reports

2) 50/50 raffle - Harold stock won the cash, Ed Weber and Brett Jackson won flies donated by Craig Dennison

3) Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum Youth Programs - we have sponsored Nick Nasello for one of the openings, Nick took the fly tying classes at Up The Creek and is really into the sport. We have one more opening to be filled. If anyone has a youth in mind, Please let Jake know.

4) We have been asked by the local Boy Scouts to help with a venture program. They would like us to run a five or six week class encompassing the basics of fly fishing. They had hoped we would be able to do something before the school year ends. I have been in in contact with Adam Smith of the scouts and told him we would probably be able to do something for early fall. This will be discussed further at our upcoming Board of Directors meeting.

5) May 17th is the Pittsford Rotary Youth Fishing Derby at Powder Mill Park. Volunteers are need to demonstrate casting. Derby runs from 8AM to 10AM, sign-up starts at 7AM, prizes awarded at 10:15 AM. Let Joe Triolo know if you can help out.

6) We need volunteers for the ADK Club Expo at Mendon Ponds on June 14th, Program runs from 10AM to 4PM. All sorts of outdoor activities will be on display. We need people again to help give casting demos and help others. Let Joe or Jake know if you can help out.

7) There will be no meeting on June 4th. Instead we will have our meeting on June 21st at Joe Triolo's camp on Honeoye Lake. We will have a short meeting, have a cookout and then do some bass fishing. This will be discussed at our next BoD meeting and details are forth coming.

8) PHONESFORGOOD.com - online cell phone retailer is helping non-profit organizations such as ours raise money. If you purchase your net cell phone from them (most major carriers are covered), they will donate $40 to $50 to FFF. If you are interested check them out at PhonesForGood.com.

9) New club fund raiser starting - Simms Rivertek Waders - Win a pair of Rivertek waders from Simms. Tickets are $10 a piece and only 100 will be sold. Drawing will not be held until all 100 tickets have been sold. This is to raise money for UFF. Waders donated by Simms sales rep, Parker Sterner.

10) Introduced Pete Austerman, DEC region 8 fisheries biologist. Pete gave an excellent presentation comparing creel studies done on the Cohocton River in 2002 and 2007. Lots of good info and he answered many questions for us.
